A Special Place For
A Memorable Wedding
T |
he Nevada City United Methodist Church is located in historical downtown Nevada City and is one of the oldest Protestant Churches in California. It was founded in 1850 with the present structure dating from 1864. Recent renovations have brought new life as well as increased safety and convenience to this historical building.
We are delighted to share in the
planning and celebration of your marriage.
Your wedding is exciting, challenging and deserves careful thought and
planning. We believe that your wedding
service is a time of spiritual growth as much as a time of commitment. The following guidelines should help you to
have the most memorable service possible:

Wedding Hostess
¨ meets with the bride to discuss wedding plans.
¨ is responsible for the logistics of the wedding.
¨ insures that everything is done properly and as planned.
¨ is responsible (along with the pastor) for the rehearsal.
¨ functions as coordinator of events before and after the wedding ceremony.
¨ is the key to an orderly wedding.
Setting the Date and Time
Date and time for your wedding and rehearsal must be made with the church secretary and scheduled on the master church calendar. You then need to call the wedding hostess and set an appointment with her, and with the Pastor.
Our pastor enjoys leading weddings and has other ordained clergy who can serve you. With prior arrangement, a clergy person of your choice may lead the service in our sanctuary. We have no requirement of membership to be married here.
Counseling
If our pastor is leading the service, she will want to meet with you to get to know you and discuss your ceremony. We are committed in helping to make the service reflective of who you are and to make it a meaningful spiritual experience.
Music
We have organist/pianists who may be available for you to hire, or you may choose to provide a musician of your choice to use our organ or piano. Our sound system is available under the supervision of the wedding hostess.
Decorations and Flowers
Because of the ornate decor of the sanctuary, a minimum amount of additional decorating is needed. Two floral arrangements on our side pedestals are commonly used. The church has two lovely white candelabra you may use. You will need to provide 14 12-14” tapered candles for them. More elaborate decorations can readily be used if so desired.
Photography
Your photographer is welcome to capture activities prior to, during and following the ceremony. We ask that he/she be unobtrusive and not “snap” during the vows; it can cause you to react. The Wedding Hostess can assist your video artist with lighting; and for photographic purposes only, the balcony can be opened.
Reception Hall
Our Fellowship Hall and kitchen are available. Please consult the church secretary for details.
Facility Use
Dressing rooms are available for both men and women. The balcony is closed to use, except by the wedding photographer. For safety reasons, no rice or birdseed is to be thrown inside or outside of the building.
¨ the sanctuary is handicapped accessible with an elevator.
¨ the church bells can be rung in celebration at the conclusion of the ceremony.
¨ recommendations for many resources in our community are available if you wish to request them through our wedding hostess.
Rehearsal
The rehearsal is usually held the evening prior to the wedding and takes approximately one hour. Many people are involved in the rehearsal and therefore, it should be started on time.
Day of the Wedding
The church will be opened for you one hour prior to the ceremony. This will allow you adequate time for dressing and last minute touch ups. Please inform your florist, photographer, and musician to arrive at this time.
